Brentham, near Pitshanger, began in 1901 with nine houses called Vivian Terrace, now 71 to 87 Woodfield Road. Every tenant held a share in Ealing Tenants Ltd, and by 1915 the estate was largely finished: about 650 cottages and houses, plain terraces at first and then a looser Arts and Crafts style. The council made it a conservation area in 1969.

The census shows how many of the big houses near the Broadway are now flats. In Ealing Broadway ward in 2021, 25.5% of households lived in part of a converted house and 45.4% in a purpose-built block, while only 9.4% had a detached house.

Further west the housing is mostly 20th century. Perivale had 60 residents in 1901 and 9,979 in 1951, once Western Avenue had been cut through it and factories and houses followed; the main block of its Grade II* Hoover Building was converted into 66 flats in 2017 and 2018. In Northolt most of the housing north of Western Avenue was built for sale in the 1920s and 1930s, and most of the housing south of the road dates from the 1960s and 1970s and is social housing. In Northolt West End ward, south of the A40, 48.8% of households lived in a purpose-built flat in 2021.

On the eastern side, the South Acton estate has about 2,000 homes, mostly in medium and high-rise blocks, and has been under regeneration since 1999; its 21-storey Barrie House came down in 2001. South Acton ward had the borough's highest share of purpose-built flats at the 2021 Census, 59.2%.

Taken together, Ealing's 133,659 households were 34.5% in purpose-built flats, 12.7% in converted houses, 23.4% in terraced houses and 21.9% in semis. Ealing's parking zones keep different hours

Ealing council's zone list has 63 entries, and their controlled hours differ a lot. Four from the council's zone pages:

In Zone W the zone's own hours leave 10am to 3pm on weekdays clear, long enough for a single or a double, though the council says to check the street signs for any other restriction. In Zone A or Zone L the controls run for most of the day, so the van may need a paid bay or a visitor permit. Private renting in Ealing

Between 10am and 1pm on a weekday suits it best. The zone is controlled only from 9am to 10am and from 3pm to 4pm, so that leaves time for the clean before the afternoon hour. Zone W's listed hours are Monday to Friday only, and a weekend visit costs the same as a weekday one.
