No 15 Elm Avenue, on the south side of Ealing Common, is a Cape Dutch-style house designed in 1928 for Sir Michael Balcon, who went on to head Ealing Studios from 1938.
Houses facing the Common
By the 1840s the Common was one of the few scraps of common land left in this part of Middlesex, and the Metropolitan Commons Act of 1866 let the Ealing Local Board buy about 47 acres of common land, Ealing Common among it. The houses round its west and south sides span more than a century. Nos 6 to 9 The Common date from the late 1790s and are listed Grade II. St Marks Road and St Matthews Road are two small cul-de-sacs of artisan cottages from about 1880. Warwick Road is lined with double-fronted late Victorian detached houses set back behind deep front gardens, and the houses on the south side, Elm Avenue among them, went up between 1910 and 1930. All Saints Church on the corner of Elm Grove Road, by W. Alfred Pite, dates from 1903 to 1905. Ealing made the area a conservation area in 1982 and has enlarged it twice, in 2004 and in November 2025.
Some of those family houses are flats now; the council's appraisal links the conversions to the brick bin stores built in front gardens. South-west of the conservation area, in the small census area around Ascott Avenue and Hazelwood Close (ONS area Ealing 031E), 40.4% of households lived in part of a converted or shared house at the 2021 Census, against 12.7% across the borough, and 47.0% rented privately.

Zones F and G, by Charles Holden's 1931 station on the Uxbridge Road, leave long gaps between their hours.

No. Mention the floor when you call so the visit is timed properly.
Is a weekend visit dearer?
No. Weekends cost the weekday price. On Elm Avenue a Saturday is outside Zone D's hours, though Zone C also lists Saturday, 10am to 4pm.
Is the inside of the door glass cleaned too?
Where the door design allows. The door is split only where its design allows, and the glass is degreased by hand.

Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
