A Miele oven with PerfectClean is cleaned like glass: a sponge, hot soapy water, no oven spray at all. The door lifts off once the hinge catches turn up. Pyrolytic models burn the cavity to ash at 400C, and only PyroFit accessories stay in.
PerfectClean hates oven spray
PerfectClean is Miele's smooth non-stick cavity finish, and it changes how you clean the oven. Miele's line is that you clean it like glass: a sponge with hot water and a little washing-up liquid, then rinse so the water runs off. If it beads and runs clear, the surface is doing its job.
The warning list matters more here than on any other brand.
Miele says use no oven sprays on any part of the oven, and keep abrasive cleaners, ceramic-hob cleaners, metal scourers, steel wool, hard brushes and sharp tools away. No dishwasher for PerfectClean trays, and no baking-soda or vinegar paste, which also attacks the coating. Wipe spills while fresh; dried fruit juice can stain the enamel for good, though it still works.
Taking the door off its hinges
Miele doors lift off, they do not unscrew from the oven. Open the door fully, and on each hinge you will find a locking catch; turn both catches upward as far as they go, until they sit at an angle. Lift the door up to its stop, grip it firmly at both sides, and raise it off the hinge guides, evenly on the two sides.
One rule Miele repeats in bold: never lift the door off by the handle, which can break and take the glass with it. The door is heavy, so clear a padded spot first and set it down front-first on a towel.
Every Miele we open with a greasy film between the panes came from a spill left to run down the inside of the glass. Force the panes and you crack one.
The inner glass and its locks
With the door off, the inner panes are held by two small locks along the top edge, between the hinge pin and the latch. Release those and the panes lift free. Some models instead use Torx screws top and bottom, so a star bit is worth having before you open a door that fights you.
Wash the panes with warm soapy water on a soft cloth, dry them fully, and refit in the same order and orientation. A scratched pane can crack under heat later, so if one will not seat square, start again rather than force it; when a hinge or lock is stuck fast, we talk it through on 020 8077 5225.
Pyrolytic models and what PyroFit means
Pyrolytic Miele ovens heat the sealed cavity to about 400C and reduce grease and food residue to a fine ash. The door locks itself at the start for safety and will not release until the inside drops below 280C, so you cannot rush it; a full cycle runs a couple of hours, with light, medium and intensive settings. When it is cool, the ash wipes out with a damp cloth and no chemicals.
Here is the part people get wrong.
Whether the shelves and runners stay in depends on one word: PyroFit. Miele accessories with the PyroFit finish, including PyroFit FlexiClip runners, are built for the heat and clean themselves inside the cycle. Standard FlexiClip runners are not; the heat damages them, so they come out and wash by hand. Miele cleaning questions we are asked
Can I use oven cleaner in a Miele?
No. Miele says no oven sprays on any part of the oven, and caustic cleaner strips PerfectClean. Hot soapy water and a sponge is the method, or the pyrolytic cycle on models that have one.
Do the FlexiClip runners go in the pyrolytic cycle?
Only if they are PyroFit. Those are made for the heat and self-clean in the cavity. Standard FlexiClip runners are not suitable and must come out first, then wash by hand.
Why is there a film between the door panes?
A spill has run down inside the glass. The panes separate at the top locks, or via Torx screws on some models, so they can be cleaned and refitted. Forcing a pane cracks it.
A Miele rewards careful hand-cleaning, and the door glass is slow, exact work; that is much of what you pay us for.
