Acton Central station sits on Churchfield Road next to a level crossing, and it is the point where Mildmay line trains change power supply, overhead 25kV wires towards Stratford and a 750V third rail towards Richmond. The old station building beside it is now a pub called The Churchfield. Acton has seven stations. For us that decides which end of Churchfield Road the van can reach when the barriers are down.
Poets Corner and the streets by the crossing
North of Churchfield Road is the enclave known as Poets Corner: Milton, Shakespeare, Chaucer, Cowper and Goldsmith Roads. It is mid to late Victorian speculative housing built for the middle classes, bay-fronted, and the houses run big enough that plenty of them have been extended at the back into a proper run of kitchen, which is where a double oven clean at £110 comes up most. One thing worth correcting: agents often describe Poets Corner as a conservation area. Ealing lists five in Acton, Acton Green, Acton Park, Acton Town Centre, Bedford Park and Mill Hill Park, and Poets Corner is not one of them. Flats over the Churchfield Road shops and the newer blocks towards NW10 tend to have a single integrated oven instead.
Zone K and Zone K1 share a name and little else
Ealing runs two controlled parking zones both called Acton Central. Zone K is controlled Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 5:30pm. Zone K1 controls only 9am to 10am and 3pm to 4pm, a far narrower window on the same patch of Acton. Same name, different rules. The sign on the bay is what counts. The van is ULEZ compliant and there is no call-out fee inside the North and South Circular, so none of that reaches your bill.

What we get asked in W3
Does the dip tank come into the flat?
No. It is heated in the van and the racks, shelves, trays and side runners go out to it. The cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand indoors with non-caustic products.
Will the kitchen smell afterwards?
It should not. Nothing caustic is used inside the flat, which is the reason the job is split between the van and your worktop.
Is this enough for an inventory clerk?
Yes. The door glass is split where the design allows and the runners come out, the first things checked at the end of a tenancy.
How long does a Poets Corner double take?
About two hours. The oven is switched on, heat-tested and signed off before we leave.
