Charles Holden called the station he put on Station Approach in 1931 a brick box with a concrete lid, and that is fairly literally what it is: handmade Buckinghamshire brick, a tall ticket hall over a low horizontal block, an overhanging concrete roof. It replaced a District Railway building that had stood there since 28 June 1903. The shape became known as the Sudbury box and Holden reused it at Turnpike Lane, Bounds Green and Oakwood, which is why this one has been Grade II* listed since 1971.
Zone BB only bites twice a day
The controlled parking here is Ealing's Zone BB, named Sudbury Town, and it runs Monday to Friday from 10am to 11am and again from 3pm to 4pm. Two one-hour windows, nothing else. Allendale Road, Ashness Gardens, Sudbury Heights Avenue, Whitton Avenue East and Whitton Close are among the streets in it, some with restrictions on particular house numbers only, so tell us when you book and we will work round the hour.
Thirties semis, and the kitchens that came with them
Sudbury Heights Avenue and Whitton Avenue East are both 1930s semi-detached stock, three bedrooms as standard, and houses of that age came with a small rear kitchen that most owners have since knocked about. What turns up now is a mix: original-footprint galleys with a freestanding cooker, and remodelled kitchen-diners with a housed pair. The dip-tank clean on a Whitton Avenue East semi works the same either way, because the racks, shelves, trays and side runners lift out whatever the cooker is.
The soaking happens on the street, not in your sink
Those parts go into a heated tank in the van. The cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand indoors with non-caustic products, so there is nothing to air out afterwards, and the oven is heat-tested before it is signed off. The station straddles the Brent and Ealing boundary, and roughly 1.6 million passengers came through it in 2024.

There should not be. The products used indoors are non-caustic, and the soaking is done outside in the van rather than in the kitchen.
