Acton Green Common and Chiswick Park station are in Ealing, but Belmont Road, just south of them, is in Hounslow, in the Chiswick Gunnersbury ward that runs down to Chiswick High Road.
Around Acton Green Common
The common is what is left of Acton's ancient common land. Ealing has made Acton Green a conservation area, and its 2008 management plan says Acton Green became a parish with the building of St Alban's Church in 1877 and 1878, and that Acton Lane was once called Bromcroft Lane. Around the green the plan lists a small Victorian and Edwardian parade of shops, a Victorian pub, Victorian terraces, and blocks of flats from about 1900 and from the 1930s. The station on the west side opened on 1 July 1879 under the name Acton Green; it became Chiswick Park in stages, by 1910.

Land companies laid out much of the area. The British Land Company bought land east of Acton Lane in 1868, and Berrymede Road and Priory Road were built up around 1870, as were Rothschild Road, Antrobus Road and Cunnington Street to the west. The Victoria County History notes that land-company streets like these had few restrictions on use, and that laundries in South Acton were run from private houses. Fairlawn Park, beside the station, was planned in 1880 but only approved for building in 1888. Later, a large scheme between Beaconsfield Road and Acton Lane added red-brick flats and maisonettes on varying levels.
The census area that takes in the common, the station and the streets west of Acton Lane (MSOA Ealing 040, named Chiswick North West by the House of Commons Library) had 3,449 households in 2021. Of those, 38.7% lived in a purpose-built block, 25.8% in part of a converted house and 24.7% in a terraced house, and 37.7% rented privately.
A terrace of the 1870s split into two flats usually leaves each with a narrow kitchen at the back and a built-in single or a slim freestanding cooker. The racks, trays and runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, and the cavity, fan cover and glass are done by hand.
Parking on both sides of the borough line
On the Ealing side two zones meet. Antrobus Road, Beaconsfield Road, Cunnington Street, Rothschild Road and Kingswood Road are in Zone M, Acton Green, controlled from 9.30am to 5.30pm on weekdays. Berrymede Road, Priory Road, Fairlawn Avenue and South Parade are in Zone B, Bedford Park, controlled from 9am to 6pm on weekdays. Both are all-day zones, so a weekend visit at the weekday price avoids the permit hours. South of the common the streets are Hounslow's, and Hounslow posts its zone hours on boards at the entry to each zone and asks drivers to check the signs; its controlled parking zones page links a map.
