Richard Awsiter built, or rebuilt, the manor house on Southall Green in 1587, a timber-framed hall with gabled cross-wings and a close-studded front. It is listed Grade II* and still stands on The Green, with Southall's war memorial close by.
Old Southall, south of the railway
In the mid 17th century the name Southall seems to have meant this part of the parish, centred on King Street and the Green; Northcott, a separate hamlet, lay on the Uxbridge Road. By 1894 Southall Green was the most densely populated part of the parish, and by 1914 The Green and King Street were built up and a row of factories had gone up along the railway. Hillary Road and the east end of Havelock Road followed between the wars.
Southall's Sikh community, who had until then hired halls for their monthly meetings, acquired a temple on Southall Green in 1963. It was demolished in 1967, and a larger temple opened in a converted dairy in Havelock Road. In 2003 the Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha opened on Guru Nanak Road and Park Avenue, paid for by donations from the local Sikh community and described as the largest Sikh temple in London.
Terraces, converted houses and renting
Southall Green ward had 4,248 households at the 2021 Census. 31.5% lived in a terraced house, 23.2% in a semi and 23.2% in a purpose-built flat, and 10.0% in part of a converted or shared house. Renting privately was the most common tenure, at 45.3%; 39.9% owned. Households were large, too: 22.6% had four people and 28.6% five or more.

Selective licensing in Southall Green

Zone V parking around The Green
The Green, King Street, Featherstone Road, Western Road and Dudley Road are in Ealing council's Zone V, controlled from 8.30am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and from 2pm to 6pm on Sunday. That is a different zone from the Broadway's Zone L. Read the signs for anything else, and give us the street so we can plan where the van stops.

No. Southall Green is the older part south of the railway; the Broadway is the shopping street on the Uxbridge Road to the north and has its own Southall Broadway page.
Is a Sunday visit possible in Zone V?
Yes. We work seven days a week at the same price, and Zone V's Sunday controls do not start until 2pm.
My flat is on the top floor of a converted house. Is that a problem?
No, though it adds time on the stairs, so mention the floor when you book.
Is the Havelock estate in Southall Green?
Not on the current ward boundaries, which put it in Norwood Green ward; that area has its own Norwood Green page.
