Acton Main Line station on Horn Lane opened on 1 February 1868 as plain Acton, took its present name in September 1949, and had no Sunday service until May 2019.
Houses built around Horn Lane after 1868
Leamington Park and York Road, just north of the line, got some three-storey detached and semi-detached houses, and so did Essex Road to the south, where a few were built around 1870, soon after the station opened. W. G. Grace, the cricketer, lived for a short time at 1 Leamington Park. In 1877 the 77-acre Springfield estate was cut into plots of a fifth of an acre, and by 1885 about half of them had detached houses with five or six bedrooms, mainly in Rosemont, Pierrepoint and Creswick roads. East of Horn Lane the Birkbeck Land Society laid out Allison Road, Brougham Road and Birkbeck Avenue, where most of the 70 or so terraced and small semi-detached villas planned were built by 1885.
South of the station, on both sides of Horn Lane, is MSOA Ealing 021, which the House of Commons Library names Acton Noel Road and Lynton Road. In 2021 it had 2,603 households: 33.5% lived in a semi-detached house and 26.5% in part of a converted or shared house, and 40.5% rented privately.
The big houses here went two ways. Kept as one home, the kitchen tends to be large, often with a double oven or a range cooker; cut into flats, each flat has its own small kitchen and oven. Whichever it is, the racks, trays and runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately while the cavity, fan cover and glass get a hand clean indoors.

Allison Road, Birkbeck Avenue, Brougham Road, Essex Road, Creswick Road, Pierrepoint Road and Lynton Road are in Ealing's Zone MM, Friars Green, controlled from 10am to 11am and 4pm to 5pm on weekdays. North of the railway, Leamington Park and York Road are in Zone CC, Gypsy Corner, controlled from 10am to 11am and 3pm to 4pm. Horn Lane itself is split between several zones, and its house numbers on the council's lists overlap, so the sign on the bay decides. Between 11am and 3pm neither zone is controlled, four hours, long enough for a single, a double or a 90cm range (2 to 3 hours).

No. A 90cm range is £143 and takes 2 to 3 hours; a 100cm model is £167. Book a late-morning start on a weekday in Zone MM, or a weekend.
