Frederic Cavendish Pearson was 24 when Ealing Tenants took him on, and he designed 135 of the houses in Brentham, the garden suburb by Pitshanger Lane: Ludlow Road, Neville Road, Ruskin Gardens, Winscombe Crescent and parts of Brunner, Meadvale and Brunswick Roads.
Brentham was built in three phases
The Brentham Society's history sets them out. From 1901 to 1906 Ealing Tenants built over a hundred Edwardian terraced houses of a typical design in Woodfield Road, Woodfield Avenue, Woodfield Crescent and Brunner Road. Raymond Unwin was appointed in 1907, and the roads after that curve with the lie of the land, the houses set in small blocks of four and six, each one different. Pearson's have sweeping roofs, tiled dormers and irregular rooms; two blocks on Ludlow Road have diamond-shaped living rooms. From 1911 until his death in 1915 George Lister Sutcliffe drew more restrained houses for Denison Road, North View, Holyoake Walk, Fowlers Walk and lower Brentham Way.
Houses of this age went up long before fitted kitchens, so the oven in any of them is a later fit-out. In a small Edwardian back room that tends to mean a built-in single under the worktop or a slim freestanding cooker; where the back of the house has been opened up, a range is more likely.
From co-partnership tenants to owners
Brentham began with every house held in common by the tenants' society. By 1930 the idea was waning and houses were being sold to private buyers; the estate went to Liverpool Trust Ltd in 1936, and in 1940 Bradford Property Trust took over the houses still let. Flats came early too, with Holyoake House in 1912: 24 small flats for single and retired people. Pitshanger, Holyoake and Winscombe Courts were built in the 1930s.
The 2021 Census shows the result. In the small area around Pitshanger Lane, Ludlow Road, Denison Road and Woodfield Road (Ealing 013D, in Hanger Hill ward), 73.6% of the 622 households owned their home and 24.0% rented privately. Half lived in a terraced house (50.2%) and 26.8% in a purpose-built flat. Landlords letting one of these houses can have the invoice sent to their agent, with photos for the checkout file on request. Ealing counts Hanger Hill ward, as drawn before May 2022, among its selective licensing areas from 3 January 2023, and these streets are in it, so letting one of these houses generally needs a council licence.
A range cooker or an AGA?

Parking on Brentham's roads
Pitshanger Lane, Ludlow Road, Denison Road, Ruskin Gardens and the Woodfield roads appear on none of Ealing's 63 controlled zone lists, so there are no permit hours to plan round; the signs on the street still apply. Part of Brunswick Road is different: odd numbers 145 to 275 and even numbers 102 to 134 are in Zone O, named after Hanger Hill, which is controlled from 9am to 10am and 3pm to 4pm on weekdays. The team needs somewhere to park.

Questions about oven cleaning in Pitshanger
Is Pitshanger the same place as Brentham?
They overlap. Brentham was built on the farmland between Castlebar Hill and Hanger Hill that was dominated by Pitshanger Farm, and some of the houses on Pitshanger Lane belong to the estate.
The kitchen is the small back room of a 1910 house. Is there space to work?
Yes. Dust sheets go down first, the racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, and the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand in the kitchen.

Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
