The Hanger Hill Garden Estate has 258 flats, in blocks along Queens Drive, Links Road and Monks Drive, and 361 houses, according to its residents' association, all built between 1928 and 1936 on land that had been an aerodrome and aircraft works.
Tudor-style houses and flats on the Garden Estate
The architects were Douglas Smith and Barley, and the estate went up in two halves. From 1928 to 1932 came Princes Gardens, Tudor Gardens, Vale Lane and the east side of Monks Drive; from 1933 to 1936 the west side of Monks Drive, part of Links Road, more of Queens Drive and every one of the blocks of flats. The houses stand in pairs or in terraces of four, six or eight, built to about half a dozen designs, and the flats were styled on Tudor manor houses set in lawns. Service roads with garages run behind both. Ealing made the estate a conservation area in 1969 and added an Article 4 direction in 1976.
The cooker in one of the flats is more often a single than a range; in the houses it depends on how far each kitchen has been refitted.
Many Garden Estate homes are rented
In the Census small area that covers Monks Drive, Princes Gardens and Tudor Gardens (Ealing 041E), 43.2% of the 585 households rented privately in 2021, 47.4% owned their home and 9.1% rented from a social landlord. Four in ten lived in a terraced house (39.8%) and about a third in a purpose-built flat (32.5%). With that much letting, tenancies end often, and the oven is part of the checkout. A landlord letting a flat or house on the estate generally needs a selective licence from Ealing: Hanger Hill is one of the wards on the council's list, which counts from 3 January 2023 and uses the ward boundaries drawn before May 2022.

Parking on Hanger Hill: Zones Z and O
The Garden Estate's roads, Queens Drive, Links Road, Monks Drive, Princes Gardens, Tudor Gardens and Vale Lane, are in Ealing's Zone Z, controlled from 10am to 11am and from 2pm to 3pm on weekdays. The residents' association notes there are only three ways into the estate by road. The team needs somewhere to park.

The Garden Estate's roads carry W3 postcodes on the council's zone list, but the estate is in Ealing's Hanger Hill ward. The Haymills Estate is W5.
Can the oven be cleaned on the last day of a tenancy?
Yes, if a slot is free that day. We work seven days, weekends at the weekday price, and cancelling is free up to 24 hours before.
Is the oven cleaned in the flat itself?
Mostly, yes. The cavity, fan cover and door glass are cleaned by hand in the kitchen, on dust sheets, while the racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately. When it is back together and hot, you check it with us before we leave.
