South Greenford station opened on 20 September 1926 as South Greenford Halt, built with materials from the platforms of Trumpers Crossing Halte, which had closed earlier that year.
A halt on the Greenford branch by the A40
The word Halt was dropped on 5 May 1969. The station stands on the A40 at what the Victoria County History calls the north-east corner of Perivale Park, and Great Western Railway runs two trains an hour each way along the branch, every day except Sunday: north to Greenford for the Central line and south to West Ealing. It is a quiet stop: 52,212 entries and exits in 2024-25.
North-east of the platforms the roads are named after rivers: Thames Avenue, Medway Drive, Tees Avenue, Calder Avenue, Hodder Drive and Welland Gardens. The county history, describing the old parish of Greenford, says the development of the parish had been virtually completed by 1939.
Renting in Perivale ward
The station and the river-named streets are in Ealing's Perivale ward. At the 2021 Census it had 5,657 households, of which 35.5% rented privately, 54.8% owned and 8.7% rented from a social landlord. The river-named streets are on none of the council's zone lists. Either way the team needs somewhere to park.
