The terraces set the job
The streets either side of Northfield Avenue went up in a rush between 1890 and 1910, two-storey terraces put up in short runs by different builders, which is why the back kitchens vary so much from one front door to the next. Ealing's 2023 Northfields Conservation Area appraisal calls them homes for the lower middle classes, uniform in shape and full of small design differences, and that is fair. In practice it means a freestanding 60cm cooker in a side-return extension, often wedged against a party wall with about four inches of clearance either side. Further south, towards the old hamlet of Little Ealing and its surviving cluster of 18th century houses, the kitchens get bigger and range cookers start turning up.
Zone N runs two short windows
Northfields sits in Ealing's controlled parking zone N. The restriction runs Monday to Saturday, but only in two one-hour windows: 9am to 10am, and 3pm to 4pm. That is unusual. Because a single oven takes about ninety minutes and a double oven clean runs closer to two hours, almost any mid-morning or mid-afternoon booking here overlaps one of those windows, so the van either needs a visitor permit or a legal spot on an unrestricted stretch before the tank goes on.
Flats above the parades turn over
The Edwardian shop parades along Northfield Avenue were built with living space above them, and that upper-floor space is largely let rather than owned. Tenancy endings drive a lot of oven work in W13. Those flats usually have an integrated single oven and a four-ring hob, which is the cheapest combination we do.

Does the oven have to come out of the kitchen?
No. The racks, shelves, trays and side runners lift out and go to the heated tank in the van. The cavity, fan cover and door glass are done by hand where the oven stands.
Will the flat smell afterwards?
The indoor products are non-caustic, so there is no chemical smell left behind. The oven is heat-tested before we go.
Can the hob and extractor be done in the same visit?
Yes. A hob is £23-28 depending on type, an extractor hood is £28. Mention it when you book.
Do you cover the W5 side of Northfields?
Yes, down through Little Ealing and across to Northfields station. The postcode line runs through the middle of the area and makes no difference to the price.
