St Mary the Virgin stands on Tentelow Lane at the corner of Norwood Green. Inside it keeps a round-headed west arch of the 12th century; the flint-and-brick tower outside was only built in 1896.
The village round the green
Norwood was the old parish and Southall grew up inside it. By 1816 the triangular green had respectable villas of an ornamental character grouped round it, and some still stand: Friars Lawn and The Grange, a tall attached pair on Norwood Green Road, were probably built in 1813 and are listed. The Plough on Tentelow Lane, probably the oldest inn in Norwood according to the Victoria County History of Middlesex, takes in a timber-framed building of the 17th century or earlier. Osterley Park runs along the eastern side.
Ealing council made the area a conservation area in 1969 and extended it in 2007 to take in the Lamb pub on Norwood Road and Wolf Field park. The Lamb is close to Harewood Terrace.
Detached houses by the church, flats further out
The census area around the church and Tentelow Lane (Ealing 038B) is mostly houses. Of its 516 households in 2021, 33.9% lived in a detached house and another 33.9% in a semi, and 69.3% owned their home. Across Norwood Green ward as a whole the picture is different: 42.1% of the 5,014 households lived in a purpose-built flat, 30.3% rented from a social landlord and 5.2% were shared owners. The ward also takes in the rebuilt Havelock estate, where Peabody says the first phase brought 291 new homes, over 55% of them affordable (social rent, London Affordable Rent, shared ownership or fixed equity).

Parking near the green
Part of Norwood Road (odd numbers 11 to 123 and even numbers 4 to 114) is in Ealing council's Zone V. The zone is controlled Monday to Saturday between 8.30am and 6pm, and on Sunday between 2pm and 6pm. Tentelow Lane and Norwood Green Road are on none of the council's zone lists. Is Norwood Green part of Southall?
It has a Southall postcode (UB2) and is an Ealing ward, but Norwood was the old parish and Southall one of its hamlets. Its southern edge meets the Hounslow boundary, where North Hyde starts.
Can the hob be done at the same visit?
Yes. A gas hob is £28 and a ceramic one £23, on top of the oven price, and for a range the hob or hood is £48.
Where does the work happen?
Mostly in your kitchen, on dust sheets. The racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately. A heated tank on the van is used by some teams when they can park close; if not, the whole job is done in the kitchen. Either way the price is the same, so do ask when you book.
Said after the sign-off
Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
Arrived promptly and did a great job cleaning the oven, hob and extractor. They look like new now and for a very reasonable price too.
Nice hardworking lads that always do a good job. We used them for our old flat when moving out and for the new one now, both jobs were done very professionally. My wife is very impressed with the results and would recommend them to friends and family.
