From 1910 to 1920 the land north of West Acton station was a working aerodrome, called Acton Aerodrome until 1914, and its main entrance stood where the station is now.
The Hanger Hill Garden Estate
The Hanger Hill Garden Estate company bought the land from the Wood family in 1925 and built in two phases, 1928 to 1932 and 1933 to 1936. Its architects, Douglas Smith and Barley, dressed the houses and the flats alike in mock-Tudor black timbers and white render. The plan had 258 flats in three-storey blocks, mostly along Queens Drive and Links Road, and 361 houses on Monks Drive, Vale Lane, Princes Gardens, Tudor Gardens and the rest. Pevsner called it "the beau ideal of romantic Metroland". Ealing made it a conservation area in 1969.
The houses are modest. Ealing's appraisal describes mostly terraced houses, with some semis, on plots slightly shorter than the houses themselves. The 2021 Census for the small area around Monks Drive and Garage Road (ONS area Ealing 041E) shows the same mix: 39.8% of households in a terraced house, 32.5% in a purpose-built flat and 19.6% in a semi. Only 1.2% lived in part of a converted or shared house, against 12.7% across Ealing; the estate was built as flats and houses in 1928 to 1936. Owners held 47.4% of homes and private tenants 43.2%.

Zone Z around the estate
The main estate roads are in Ealing's Zone Z: Queens Drive, Monks Drive, Princes Gardens, Tudor Gardens, Vale Lane and Links Road, along with Station Parade and part of Noel Road. The council lists two controlled hours on weekdays, 10am to 11am and 2pm to 3pm, and says other restrictions are signed on the street. A single started at 11am is done by about half past twelve, well clear of the afternoon hour. Weekends cost the weekday price and fall outside Zone Z's listed hours.
West Acton station, the Grade II listed building of 1940 by the Great Western Railway's architect Brian Lewis, sits on the estate's south-east side; North Ealing station is 550 metres west along Queens Drive.

Both, in a sense. The postcode is Acton's W3 and the estate grew on Acton parish land and Ealing parish land either side of the old boundary stream, but the whole estate is in the London Borough of Ealing, in Hanger Hill ward.
I live on the top floor of one of the blocks. Does that change anything?

Said after the sign-off
Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
Nice hardworking lads that always do a good job. We used them for our old flat when moving out and for the new one now, both jobs were done very professionally. My wife is very impressed with the results and would recommend them to friends and family.
