When a house is split into flats, the kitchen can end up in an old back room or on a half-landing, and the cooker is usually a built-in single under the worktop or a narrow freestanding one. The stairs matter more than the oven, so mention the floor when you call. Everything that lifts out is soaked and cleaned separately, while the cavity and the inside of the door glass are degreased by hand in your kitchen, along with the fan cover. Dust sheets go down first, and the door is split where its design allows.

Council flats from Somers Town to Rowley Way

In St Pancras and Somers Town ward, 81.6% of households lived in purpose-built flats in 2021 and 64.0% rented from the council or a housing association, more than in any other Camden ward. Around Somers Town that means stairwells and lifts, so mention the floor when you call.

Camden's own architects designed Alexandra Road: 520 homes by Neave Brown, built between 1972 and 1978 and listed Grade II* in 1993. Its main thoroughfare is a pedestrian walkway, Rowley Way. In the tall block the lower homes are reached by open stairs, each serving two homes per floor, and the top two floors are maisonettes entered from a walkway on the seventh floor. For an oven clean, that changes the length of the walk with the racks and nothing else.

Prices are fixed on the phone before the visit and weekends cost the same as weekdays. No call-out fee inside the North and South Circular; outside it, any travel charge is quoted on the phone before you book.

The appliance sets the price. A single, a double, a 90cm range and a two-oven AGA each have one figure, agreed on the phone before anyone comes out, and a Hampstead house pays the same as a Somers Town flat for the same oven.

Hampstead's houses and the bigger cookers

Whole houses are commonest in the north of the borough. In Hampstead Town ward, 32.4% of households lived in a detached, semi-detached or terraced house in 2021, and 52.6% owned their home; both are the highest figures of any Camden ward.

A family kitchen in a whole house is the likeliest place for a 90cm range cooker or an AGA, and both take longer than a built-in single. A 90cm range needs two to three hours. Every Camden parking zone has a code starting CA-, and the controlled hours change from zone to zone. The council's open data on its zones, last updated in September 2025, shows how wide the spread is:

In a two-hour zone like CA-S(a), a morning booking can finish before the controls even start. Around Camden Town and Church Row the van needs a paid bay or a visitor permit for most of the day.
