Friedrich Engels lived at 122 Regent's Park Road from 1870 to 1894, and the Greater London Council marked the house with a blue plaque in 1972.
Much of the land here was Lord Southampton's, and he sold it in 1840; new villas followed. Chalcot Square was laid out between 1849 and 1860, and its Italianate terraces are all Grade II listed. Camden made Primrose Hill a conservation area on 1 October 1971.

In the small Census area around Engels's house (the ONS calls it Camden 018C), 47.1% of the 698 households in 2021 lived in part of a converted or shared house, and only 18.7% in a purpose-built block. Another 24.1% had a terraced house to themselves. Owners and private renters were almost level, at 43.0% and 43.4%.
A flat in a converted house like this often has a compact kitchen and a built-in single oven. The racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, while the cavity, the fan cover and the door glass are done by hand in the kitchen. A family kitchen in a whole house is the likelier place for a range cooker.

Parking in zone CA-J
