Much of Russell Square itself is hotels and institutions. The east side is taken up by the Kimpton Fitzroy and the Imperial hotels, the University of London holds much of the west side, and a school has had Nos. 52-53 since 2019. The Brunswick Centre's stepped flats
Many of the homes are in the Brunswick Centre, built in 1967-72 to Patrick Hodgkinson's design for Marchmont Properties and Camden council. It is two linked blocks, O'Donnell Court and Foundling Court, each with an inner range of eight storeys and an outer range of five. The flats have glazed living rooms that open on to balconies, and these give the blocks their stepped outline. On the upper floors most flats have one or two bedrooms, with studios at the ends. Hodgkinson wanted the concrete painted cream, to echo the terraced houses that stood on the site before; the blocks got that colour in the refurbishment finished in 2006, and the centre has been listed at Grade II since 2000.
At the 2021 Census, 97.1% of the households in the two output areas that take in the Brunswick Centre lived in a purpose-built block, and 72.3% rented from the council. A flat of that size can have a compact kitchen, with a built-in single or a freestanding cooker; mention the floor when you call.
Private lets beside the station
The output area beside the station, east of the square, has a different mix. Of its 186 households in 2021, 51.6% rented privately, 31.7% rented from a housing association and 13.4% owned; 29.0% lived in part of a converted or shared house. Where half the homes are let, the oven is often an item on checkout inventories; letting agents can have the invoice in the agency's name and photos for the checkout file. Saturday parking ends at 1.30pm in zone CA-D
Camden's parking map puts most of the square itself in a shared CA-E/D section, controlled from 8.30am to 6.30pm Monday to Saturday. Bernard Street, the Brunswick Centre, Marchmont Street and Guilford Street are in CA-D, the King's Cross zone, where control runs 8.30am to 6.30pm on weekdays but stops at 1.30pm on Saturday. In controlled hours a tradesperson's van in a resident bay needs a Camden trade permit for the zone of the address, and the permit is not valid on housing estate land.

Near Bernard Street and the Brunswick Centre, yes: CA-D controls end at 1.30pm on Saturday, and weekend visits cost the weekday price. On most of the square itself control lasts until 6.30pm.
How long does a double oven take?
About 2 hours on site, and about 90 minutes for a single. The oven is heated at the end so you can look inside it lit.
Does the oven need to be cold when you arrive?
Cool, yes, so switch it off in good time. We also need a working socket.
