The whole London and Birmingham line opened from Euston on 17 September 1838, and until July 1844 trains leaving the station were pulled up the slope to Camden Town by a cable wound by fixed engines, before locomotives took over.
Flats between the station and Robert Street
The census area that contains the station, Camden 023F, takes in Drummond Street and runs west over Hampstead Road to Stanhope Street and William Road, on the edge of the Regent's Park Estate. Of those, 87.1% lived in a purpose-built block of flats and only 4.4% in a house of any kind; 60.2% rented from the council or a housing association, and 50.9% from Camden itself.

HS2 works around Euston in 2026
The first of two tunnel boring machines set off on the 4.5-mile drive from Old Oak Common to Euston on 27 January 2026, and the government says delivery of its Euston plans will be taken forward by a new body, the Euston Delivery Company. Nearer the flats, HS2 lists Hampstead Road Bridge construction from October 2026 to 2031 and works in the Euston approaches running to the end of 2027. Parking near the station: CA-G and two TfL roads
Camden's data puts the streets round the station in parking zone CA-G, which the council calls its Somers Town Area. It is controlled from 8.30am to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday, and no Saturday or Sunday hours are listed. Euston Road and Hampstead Road are run by Transport for London, and both have had a 20mph limit since April 2023; Hampstead Road is a red route between Euston and Camden Town. Camden's trade permit, the one sold to tradespeople, is not valid on a red route or inside a housing estate. We need a bay near the block. Weekend visits are charged at the weekday price, and CA-G lists no Saturday or Sunday hours.
