The Peckwater Estate is a single Camden council estate off Islip Street and Peckwater Street, east of Kentish Town Road, and a small place for a page of its own. Camden's housing stock data, updated in June 2026, lists 169 flats on it, 33 marked as leased and the other 136 not.
Peckwater's post-war blocks
The estate is older than Camden. The University of Edinburgh's tower block database lists two of its blocks, Greatfield at eight storeys with 51 flats and The Forties at six storeys with 24, in a St Pancras borough scheme approved in 1946 and designed by A.J. Thomas. The Buildington database lists Aborfield, on Peckwater Street, at eight floors and 51 flats, completed in 1959. The street names are older still: Peckwater, Islip, Wolsey and Caversham are among the streets in east Kentish Town named for places and people connected with Christ Church, Oxford.
Peckwater's three-bedroom flats
Most of the flats are family-sized. Of the 169, 119 have three bedrooms and five have four; 36 have two, and only nine are one-bedroom flats or bedsits. In the small Census area that takes in the estate and the streets beside it (Camden 009D, 571 households), 59.5% of households rented from the council in 2021 and 74.4% lived in a purpose-built block.

Parking for the van by Islip Street
The roads round the estate are in Camden's CA-M zone, controlled 8.30am to 6.30pm on weekdays and, on the council's zone data, not at all at weekends. The estate's own land is another matter: Camden says housing-estate land inside its zones runs its own parking rules, and the council's trade permit for tradespeople does not cover it.
