West Hampstead Thameslink opened on 1 March 1871 as West End for Kilburn and Hampstead, on the Midland Railway's line into St Pancras, and has been renamed five times since; the present name dates from 16 May 1988.
The new flats at 156 West End Lane
A short walk from the stations, the old council offices and the Travis Perkins depot at 156 West End Lane have been rebuilt as 180 flats: 94 private, 54 at affordable rent, 25 at intermediate rent and 7 shared ownership. A2Dominion announced the scheme finished in April 2025, and the flats came with integrated appliances.
An integrated oven in a new flat is cleaned like any other. Renting round the stations
The 2021 Census came before those flats were finished. In the small Census area round the stations (Camden 010E), 49.2% of the 1,120 households rented privately and 25.8% rented social housing; 50.4% lived in purpose-built flats and 37.3% in converted houses. With nearly half the homes let privately, letting agents can have the invoice in the agency's name, photos for the checkout file and keys collected for an empty flat by arrangement.

Parking zones round the stations
The Thameslink, Overground and Jubilee line stations stand a few hundred metres apart round West End Lane, and Camden's zone data runs three zones through the area: CA-Q, Kilburn, covers the Overground station; CA-R(a) covers the Jubilee line station and 156 West End Lane; CA-P(a), Fortune Green, covers the streets just to the north. All three are controlled from 8.30am to 6.30pm on weekdays and not at weekends. The zone lines run close to the stations, so the zone depends on the address. Visitor permits are for residents' own guests; a tradesperson's van uses Camden's trade permit.
