Finchley Road and Frognal is a station before it is anything else. It opened in 1860 as Finchley Road St Johns Wood, on the Hampstead Junction Railway, a line built that year to run trains from Willesden Junction to Camden Road without using the clogged Primrose Hill route into Euston, and the tunnel under Hampstead's hill begins just east of the platforms. It sits on the Finchley Road itself, on what is now the Mildmay line, five minutes from Finchley Road tube. The catchment is the corridor, not a village centre.
What stands along the corridor
Mansion blocks line much of this run of the Finchley Road, with flats carved out of larger houses behind them. Kitchens in that stock usually hold one oven under a worktop, which is a standard oven clean.
The O2 site is rewriting the west side
Landsec owns the O2 Centre at 255 Finchley Road and has consent for a residential-led rebuild of the car park and the plots around it: about 1,800 homes in buildings rising to fifteen storeys across a fourteen-acre site running between the Finchley Road and West End Lane, car-free by design, with GRID Architects on the scheme and Heatherwick Studio brought in during 2024 to revise it. Completion is pencilled in for 2028. New flats at that scale arrive with integrated ovens as standard, which shifts the mix of work on this side of the road over the next few years.

This stretch falls in Camden's Hampstead controlled parking zone, CA-H, which is split into five sub-areas with different hours of control in each, so the sign at the end of one road will not necessarily match the next. I am in a mansion flat upstairs. Is that a problem?
No. The dip tank stays in the van, and only the racks, shelves, trays and runners go down to it.
Will the flat smell of chemicals afterwards?
It should not. Nothing caustic is used indoors: the cavity, fan cover and glass are degreased by hand.
Can you do the hob and extractor at the same visit?
