The most council-rented ward in Camden
The ward had 4,870 households at the 2021 Census. 64.0% of them rented from the council or a housing association, more than in any other Camden ward, and 46.8% rented from the council directly. 22.6% rented privately and only 12.0% owned. Four homes in five, 81.6%, were flats in a purpose-built block.
Oakley Square shows the mix. The Duke of Bedford's estate built it in phases between 1845 and 1859, but its Victorian terraces now survive only on the north side, Nos. 53 to 57 and 58 to 70. The south side was a bomb site after the war, and Godwin Court, a council block, went up there after 1946.

Royal College Street's listed terraces
The Royal Veterinary College, founded in 1791, still has its London campus on the street, and the poets knew it as Great College Street. Nos. 6 to 22 are a listed terrace of nine houses from the late 18th and early 19th centuries, three or four storeys over a basement or cellar. Further north, Nos. 165 to 181 are a complete group of nine houses of about 1845, with cast-iron balconies at first floor. Where houses like these are split into flats, the stairs up to a top-floor kitchen add time, so mention the floor when you book.

Parking in zones CA-G and CA-G/F
Oakley Square and Royal College Street are in Camden's CA-G/F zone, and Pratt Street and most of Somers Town in CA-G. On the council's zone data, updated in September 2025, both are controlled from 8.30am to 6.30pm on weekdays with no weekend hours listed. A Saturday or Sunday visit falls outside the controls, and weekends cost the weekday price. Camden's visitor permits are for residents' own guests; service providers use the council's trade permit.
