Agar Town was short-lived. Building began in 1841 on small plots leased on the north side of the Regent's Canal, and from 1866 the Midland Railway pulled most of it down for coal depots and warehouses serving St Pancras station. Today the name survives in Agar Grove, on the northern edge of the old district.
Elm Village, on the old railway land
Barker Drive, off Camley Street, is part of Elm Village, a 1980s estate built on the site of Agar Town; its streets include Rossendale Way, Bergholt Mews, Weavers Way, Ploughmans Close and Reapers Close.
In the Census output area that covers Bergholt Mews and Rossendale Way, 93 of the 112 households lived in a terraced or semi-detached house in 2021, where across Camden only 13.3% of households had a whole house. Nearly half owned their home and 20.2% were shared owners. Next door, round Reapers Close and Ploughmans Close, the mix is different: 73 of the 100 households rented from the council, and the homes are split about evenly between houses and flats.
A house can have a fitted kitchen with a built-in single or a double oven at eye level. The racks, trays, side runners and fan cover come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, and the cavity and door glass are degreased by hand in the kitchen, on dust sheets.
The Passivhaus rebuild on Agar Grove
The Agar Grove estate dates from 1966: 249 homes in low blocks round the tower of Lulworth House. Camden is rebuilding it in phases to the Passivhaus standard, and the scheme was described as set to be the largest Passivhaus development in the UK. The first 38 homes were finished in April 2018, a second phase with 34 council homes in 2021 and a third phase of 125 homes in June 2024; Camden lists a block of 94 council homes as the current phase. The plan keeps Lulworth's concrete frame and refurbishes the tower.

Three parking zones within a few streets
Camden's parking map splits the old Agar Town between zones. Elm Village is CA-X, controlled 8.30am to 6.30pm on weekdays and 8.30am to noon on Saturday. Agar Grove and the streets round the estate are in CA-N, Camden Square, and most of St Pancras Way is in CA-G, both controlled on weekdays only. Camley Street changes zone along its length. A tradesperson's van in a resident bay needs a Camden trade permit in controlled hours, and the permit does not cover housing estate land. Somers Town, to the south-west, has its own page.

Is a Saturday afternoon easier for parking?
Yes. Controls in Elm Village end at noon on Saturday, and the Agar Grove and St Pancras Way zones have none at weekends. Weekend visits cost the weekday price.
How long does a double oven take?
About 2 hours, and a single about 90 minutes. The oven is heated at the end so you can inspect it lit.
Can the extractor hood be cleaned at the same visit?
Yes. An extractor hood is £28, added to the oven price and done at the same visit.
