In 757 Aethelbald, king of Mercia, granted land at 'Geddinges', the name usually taken to mean Yeading. It stayed small for a very long time: about a century after the 1590s survey of Hayes it had 13 householders, the fewest of the settlements the Victoria County History counts in the parish.
From brickfields to council estates
By 1827 there were brickfields and brickmakers' cottages at Yeading, and the council's own history of Hayes says the bricks went out by barge. Houses came late. By 1938 the council had built only 20 at Yeading, against more than 1,200 around Botwell. After the war most of the building was north and east of Yeading, where the land between Green Way and Attlee and Owen Roads was built over.
Attlee and Owen Roads now sit in Yeading ward. At the 2021 Census the ward had 4,733 households, and the commonest home was a flat in a purpose-built block (34.7%), ahead of semis (28.8%) and terraces (24.0%). Over half the households rented: 27.8% from the council or a housing association and 25.5% from a private landlord. Owners were 44.8%.

The south end of Yeading Lane is older and different. The streets between Carlyon Road and the Uxbridge Road were built up before 1935, and Yeading Library stands on this stretch. It falls in Belmore ward, where 52.7% of the 5,149 households lived in a semi in 2021 and 31.8% rented privately.

Parking near Yeading Lane
On Hillingdon's March 2026 map of parking management schemes, the only shading near Yeading is a small permit area where Yeading Lane meets the Uxbridge Road. The estate roads further north are not marked. Signs on the street still decide, and the team needs somewhere to park.
