Oven cleaning in Wraysbury, TW19, the Thames-side village between Windsor and Staines. Dip-tank method, seven days a week, single ovens from £77.

The 2021 census put the parish at 4,900 people, against 3,641 in 2001 and 660 in 1901, so the population has grown roughly sevenfold since Edward VII was on the throne, and most of the housing standing here now went up inside that window. The village sits on the east bank of the Thames, opposite Runnymede.

A Berkshire village with a Staines postcode

Wraysbury is in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, so the county is Berkshire, but the post town is Staines-upon-Thames and that is where the TW19 comes from. It was in Buckinghamshire until the Local Government Act 1972 moved it. The reservoir that carries the village name is a third answer again: Wraysbury Reservoir lies east of the houses and sits administratively in Spelthorne, in Surrey. Three counties, one name. Wraysbury station runs through Staines to Windsor and Eton Riverside.

February 2014 rewrote a lot of ground floors

Severe flood warnings covered Welley Road, Ouseley Road, Station Road, Staines Road and Magna Carta Lane, and around 100 soldiers were sent into the village. Accounts from residents at the time describe losing the whole ground floor, with about five feet of water at the front of the house and six at the back. Wraysbury has limited flood defences. Where a ground floor has been rebuilt since, the kitchen standing in it is newer than the house around it.

Detached houses, bungalows and a good deal of space

The residential stock here runs to detached and semi-detached houses and bungalows rather than flats or mansion blocks, and driveways are the norm, so parking is off-street and there is no controlled zone to argue with. A double oven in a detached Wraysbury house is £110 and takes about two hours. St Andrew's church is early thirteenth-century, and the Ankerwycke yew across the parish is reckoned at roughly 2,000 years old.

Questions from Wraysbury

Do you charge extra for coming out this far?

No. The price quoted on the phone is the price, fixed, with no premium-area surcharge on a TW19 address.

Do you need my sink or an outside tap?

No. The heated tank and the water are both in the van. Racks, shelves, trays and side runners go out to it and soak there.

Will the kitchen smell of chemicals afterwards?

It should not. The soaking happens outside the house. Indoors the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand with non-caustic products.

Do you heat-test the oven before you go?

Yes, every time. It gets switched on, brought up to temperature and signed off before we leave.

Reviews from our rounds

Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.

Once again a great job guys, I will see you in a couple of months.

Nice hardworking lads that always do a good job. We used them for our old flat when moving out and for the new one now, both jobs were done very professionally. My wife is very impressed with the results and would recommend them to friends and family.
