Wormwood Scrubs itself is 170 acres of rough grass with a Category B prison along the Du Cane Road edge, so there are no kitchens on it. Nobody lives on the grass. The ovens are on the rim, and they fall into two lots that sit less than a mile apart.
The estate side runs to freestanding cookers
The White City Estate was built in 1938-39 on the old exhibition grounds, about 50 acres of five-storey blocks, with the main roads named after countries from those exhibitions: Australia Road, Canada Way, India Way, Bloemfontein Road. Kitchens of that age usually take a freestanding 50cm or 60cm cooker rather than a built-in oven under a worktop. That suits the dip-tank method. The cooker pulls forward, the shelves and grill pan soak in the heated tank in the van, and the cavity is degreased by hand indoors with non-caustic products.
Wood Lane is the opposite problem
Television Centre put over 400 flats around the Grade II listed rotunda, and White City Living is adding more than a thousand along the same stretch of Wood Lane. The oven comes built in and branded, often a Siemens under the worktop. That is an integrated single oven job at £77 nearly every time, about ninety minutes, and the door usually splits so the inner glass gets done.

Parking is the part that shapes the day
All of this sits in a Hammersmith and Fulham controlled parking zone, and it is inside the ULEZ. Estate bays off Commonwealth Avenue and South Africa Road run on estate permits, which is a separate scheme from street permits. The new blocks park underground, and a dip-tank van will not clear a car-park height barrier, so we stop at street level and carry the parts up.
Do you cover the flats at Television Centre and White City Living?
Yes. Tell the concierge we are coming. We park at street level rather than in the residents' car park, because the van is too tall for the height barrier.
Is there a surcharge for W12?
No. £77 for a single is what we quote in Fulham or Acton too. No premium-area loading, and no call-out fee inside the North and South Circular.
What about the older cookers on the estate?
Age is not a problem. A twenty-year-old freestanding cooker cleans up like a new one, though we will say so if a perished door seal is the real reason it cooks unevenly.
How long does a double take?
Around two hours. We heat-test it before we go.

Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
