The World's End Estate, between the King's Road and Cheyne Walk, has 750 homes in brick towers of 18 to 21 storeys, joined by nine four-storey walkway blocks laid out in a figure of eight. Chelsea's council commissioned Eric Lyons to design it in 1963, and the estate is credited to him and H. T. Cadbury-Brown. Building began in 1969 on 11 acres of cleared terraced streets, and the estate was finished in April 1977.
Flats in the World's End towers
The homes range from bedsits to four-bedroom flats, with three-bedroom duplexes at the top of each tower. It is still mainly council housing. In the Census area that holds the estate's own postcodes (Kensington and Chelsea 021C), 99.5% of households lived in a purpose-built block in 2021, 72.8% rented from the council and just 7.4% rented privately.
A council flat of that age is likely to have a freestanding cooker or a single oven under the worktop. Whichever it is, the racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, and the cavity, the fan cover and the door glass are degreased by hand in the kitchen. Give us the tower and the floor when you book, so the time on site allows for the lift.

Converted houses south of the estate
South of the estate the housing changes. In the Census area just below it (021B), which includes parts of Cremorne Road and Edith Grove, 46.6% of about 600 households lived in part of a converted or shared house in 2021 and 17.4% had a whole terraced house. Tenure there splits three ways: 36.4% owned, 31.1% rented privately and 31.0% rented from a social landlord. Private lets mean check-outs, and agents can have our invoice made out to the agency, with photos for the checkout file on request.
Further west, Lots Road Power Station ran from 1 February 1905 until 21 October 2002 and is now part of Chelsea Waterfront, a scheme of 706 homes whose first 100 flats were finished in 2016. Parking off the King's Road at World's End
On the council's own maps, residents' bays at this end of Chelsea are controlled from 8.30am to 10pm on weekdays and to 6.30pm on Saturdays, and single yellow lines from 8.30am to 6.30pm, Monday to Saturday. While controls run, the council's parking guide sends visitors, the van included, to pay-by-phone bays. Yes. Tell us which tower and which floor. A working lift saves carrying time.
Can you clean the hob on my freestanding cooker too?
Yes, at the same visit. A ceramic hob is £23 and a gas hob £28, added to the oven price.
How long does a single oven take?
About 90 minutes on site. A double takes about 2 hours.
What do you need from me?
A working socket and the oven cool when we arrive. If the lift is out of action that day, tell us before we set off.
