The World's End Estate put 750 flats and roughly 2,500 residents onto eleven acres cleared of Victorian slum terraces from 1959. Eric Lyons drew the original scheme after 1963 and HT Cadbury-Brown gave the built version its face: seven red-brick towers of eighteen to twenty-one storeys, which are tied together by nine four-storey walkway blocks set out in a figure of eight. Construction began in December 1969 and finished in April 1977. Greaves, Blantyre, Ashburnham, Berenger, Dartrey, Whistler and Chelsea Reach are the towers.
What sits behind the doors here
Around 550 of the 750 homes are still council-rented and 178 are leasehold, which tells you most of what you need to know about the cookers. They are compact. The towers run about four flats to a floor with duplexes at the top, while the walkway blocks carry bedsits and the bigger three and four-bed homes. Stock of that shape means a freestanding cooker or one integrated oven under the worktop, so a single oven at £77 is the common booking. The Cremorne Estate next door, a dozen blocks between Lots Road and the river, is the same. Doubles and range cookers show up further east, off Cheyne Walk in SW3 and in King's Road flats refitted privately.
Kerb space, permits and the charge zones
Kensington and Chelsea controls its parking from 8.30am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday, with Saturday hours that vary by street, some held to 6.30pm and others released at 1.30pm. An RBKC permit works in any residents bay borough-wide, not one lettered zone. World's End sits well west of the Congestion Charge boundary. ULEZ applies, and the van is compliant. Neither reaches your bill.

Questions we get at this end of the King's Road
Does an electric fan oven change anything?
No. The fan cover comes off and is degreased by hand along with the cavity and door glass, using non-caustic products indoors. Racks, shelves, trays and runners go out to the heated tank in the van.
Do you need my sink, my water or my power?
The tank and water travel with us, so your sink stays free. We plug in only for the heat test at the end.
Can you do the hob and the hood on the same visit?
Yes, though say so on the phone so the slot is long enough. A hob is £23–28 depending on type and a hood is £28, added to the oven price.
How long will you be in the flat?
About ninety minutes for a single, roughly two hours for a double.
