Woodside Park station opened in April 1872 under another name, Torrington Park, and in June that year 45 acres of the Woodside estate were sold as 'Torrington Park'. It became Woodside Park in 1882.
Holden Road and the flats east of the line
Barnet's local history says Henry Holden inherited the land in 1877 and developed what is now Woodside Park; Holden Road is named after him. His assembly room, Woodside Hall of 1885, became Woodside Park Synagogue in 1950. Land in Woodside Avenue was offered for good-class housing in 1914.
The county history says much older property in Woodside Avenue was replaced by houses and maisonettes, and that 109 dwellings were under construction in Holden Road in 1977, replacing older houses. In the Census small area just east of the station (Barnet 012B), 77.0% of the 745 households lived in a purpose-built block in 2021; 42.0% rented privately and 21.0% from the council or a housing association.

Fred Ingram's Garden Suburb across Dollis Brook
On the far side of the railway, west of Dollis Brook and north of Folly Brook, the Woodside Park Garden Suburb went up between 1929 and 1939. Fred Ingram promoted it as a 100-acre garden suburb with no more than eight houses to the acre, built as three-bedroom semis of a consistent but not uniform design, and named the roads after the parts of Sussex he knew as a young man: Cissbury Ring, Chanctonbury Way, Pyecombe Corner, Poynings Way. The Leyland Construction Company built the rest, including Linkside, the one road without a Sussex name. The residents' association says 861 properties were built at first.
The figures still look like the plan. In the Census small area in the middle of the suburb (Barnet 020A) there were 496 households in 2021; 76.4% lived in a semi, 22.2% in a detached house, and 83.0% owned their home. Where a semi of this age has had its kitchen extended, there may be room for a built-in double or a 90cm range.

The cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand, normally in your kitchen, and the racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately. Do you need the oven off before you arrive?
Yes, cool on arrival, so switch it off after the last meal you cook in it. We also need a working socket.
