Woodlands is a triangle, and the three sides are worth knowing before you look for a parking space: the Hounslow Loop Line and London Road close it off to the north, the Duke of Northumberland's River and Twickenham Road run down the east, and Bridge Road with Worton Road cut across the bottom. The name was first written down in 1485, for arable strips beside a wood.
One builder shaped most of these kitchens
The land was enclosed in 1818 and most of it went to the Duke of Northumberland. When the Great West Road pulled development south after 1925, a local builder called RT Warren put up the Warren estate, and his name is still the estate's name. It is mostly semi-detached, mostly 1930s. Kitchens on Woodlands Road, Woodland Gardens and Woodlands Grove tend to be the original narrow rear room, and the common jobs are a built-under single or a freestanding cooker rather than anything exotic. The edges are older and newer than the middle
The Hounslow loop railway reached here in 1850 and brought the first suburban villas to the northern tip, which the Victoria County History calls a slightly humbler version of Spring Grove. The southern edge came last, after the Second World War: Bridge Road, Worton Road, Gibson Close, and Oaklands school on Woodlands Road, which was called Hounslow Field Road before that. St John the Baptist's on St John's Road and the Woodlands Tavern are the landmarks people give on the phone.
How the work runs
Isleworth station is about 450 yards from Woodlands Road; Hounslow East is roughly 0.8 miles. Most of the estate has a front garden or a hardstanding, so the van sits close. Racks, shelves, trays and side runners go into the heated tank outside. Cavity, fan cover and glass are hand-degreased indoors with non-caustic products. Oven heat-tested before we leave.
