Oven cleaning in Woodford Wells from £77 by London Oven Cleaners. The oven is heated and you look it over before we leave, and anything not right is cleaned again there and then.
The Horse and Well on the High Road was a coaching inn called the Horse and Groom by the 1770s and took its present name around 1784; Tom Rounding kept it for nearly fifty years from 1792.
The hamlet at the top of the High Road
The name refers to mineral-water wells, and for a spell in the 18th century the hamlet was a small spa. A William "de fonte" is recorded in 1285 and probably lived here. Woodford Wells grew as a settlement along the forest track that is now the A104, and Redbridge made it a conservation area in 1970, one of the borough's first.
A few buildings carry the story. Bancroft's School, by Arthur Blomfield, has battlements and turrets in red brick and stands on the site of an old pest house. Numbers 595 and 597 High Road are a brick pair of about 1830 with stucco quoins. A toll house stood at the Epping New Road junction until 1930. In 1924 Sylvia Pankhurst bought the cottages at 587, opened the Red Cottage tea rooms there, and in 1935 a concrete bomb on a plinth, made by Eric Benfield, went up on her land as a protest against bombing from the air. The northern part of the conservation area, between the High Road and Epping New Road, is dense woodland with no buildings.

Flats and detached houses side by side
Redbridge's 2007 appraisal describes the rest of the buildings in the Woodford Wells conservation area as twentieth-century detached and semi-detached family houses in their own gardens, sturdy rather than distinguished. Along Sunset Avenue, west of the High Road, Hobart Court set a precedent as a tall block of the 1970s, and blocks with large balconies were built after it to take in views over the forest.
The census shows both. Two small census areas around the hamlet, running from Sunset Avenue and Barclay Oval up to Whitehall Lane (Redbridge 001A and 001C), held 1,293 households in 2021: 433 lived in a purpose-built flat and 428 in a detached house. About four in five owned their home.
In general a flat of that era has a built-in single under the worktop, and a detached house that has been modernised is more likely to have a double or a range. A single takes about 90 minutes and a double about 2 hours; see double oven cleaning for what that covers. Either way the racks and trays come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, and the cavity, fan cover and door glass are done by hand indoors.

Parking zones WGB and WGC at Woodford Wells
Redbridge's permit map gives the streets around the hamlet three sets of hours:
- Zone WGB
- the High Road at Woodford Wells, Mornington Road, Woodside Road, The Dell and Woodland Way: 8.30am to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday, no pay and display
- Zone WGC
- part of Forest Road, Belgrave Terrace and Aldeburgh Place: 8am to 10pm, every day
- WGC, Whitehall Road section
- 2pm to 3pm, Monday to Friday
Parts of Sunset Avenue lie outside any zone. Inside the controlled hours the van needs a visitor permit from you, and tradespeople cannot buy their own. In zone WGB a Saturday visit falls outside the hours altogether. Check the signs on your own road too, since the hours above come from the council's map.
Woodford Wells oven cleaning questions
Is Woodford Wells in Redbridge?
Yes, in Monkhams ward, with Woodford Green as the post town.
My flat is on an upper floor of a Sunset Avenue block. Is that a problem?
No. Mention the floor when you call so the time can be planned.
Will a Saturday visit avoid the permit?
In zone WGB, yes, because its hours are Monday to Friday. In zone WGC the hours run all week, so keep a visitor permit for the day.
What do you need on the day?
A working socket near the cooker, somewhere for the team to park, and the oven cool when we arrive.

Reviews from our rounds
Brilliant clean, my oven looks like brand new. A 5 star clean.
Once again a great job guys, I will see you in a couple of months.
Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
