William Webb bought the land in 1888 and laid out the planting before he laid out the houses, which is what Garden First meant, and the first house went up on Banstead Road as Banstead Lodge in 1898. Upper Woodcote Village followed from 1901 and the Webb Estate after it. Between 1903 and 1925 he put roughly 225 houses across 260 acres, every one of them different and individually sited.
Two conservation areas, designated ten years apart
Upper Woodcote Village became a conservation area in November 1973 and the Webb Estate in June 1983. The stock is mostly detached, in Arts and Crafts, Tudor Revival and Neo-Georgian dress, with Upper Woodcote Village running to semi-detached houses on tighter plots. Woodcote Road carries on into Wallington
Woodcote sits inside Purley, centred on Woodcote Village Green, and has been part of the Purley and Woodcote ward since the 2018 boundary changes. Follow Woodcote Road north and you cross into Sutton and the SM6 side, where Woodcote Hall on Woodcote Green is early nineteenth century, stuccoed and Grade II listed, two separate blocks until around 1937 and long since split into flats. Same job, smaller kitchen, same price.
Conservation rules stop at the front door
None of the designation affects the cooker. Racks, shelves, trays and side runners lift out and soak in a heated tank in the van, off the property. The cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased indoors by hand with non-caustic products, so there is no smell left in a room you have just had decorated, and the oven is heat-tested before it is signed off.

No. Fixed price, no premium-area surcharge. A single oven is £77 on the Webb Estate and £77 in a Woodcote Hall flat.
Do you need to move the cooker out?
Not usually. Built-in ovens stay in their housing and only the removable parts go to the van and back.
What happens to the water and the mess?
Both leave with us. The tank, the water and the waste are all carried on the van, so your drains are not involved.
Is Woodcote CR8 or SM6?
Both, depending which end of Woodcote Road you are on. Purley and the village green are CR8, the Wallington side is SM6, and we work either side seven days.
