Wood Lane station opened on 12 October 2008, the first station built on an existing Tube line in over seventy years. A Metropolitan line station stood almost there until fire damage shut it on 24 October 1959. Wood Lane is a road and a station, not a district, and the kitchens along it belong to two very different things a few hundred metres apart.
The estate, and what the BBC left behind
The White City Estate was built in the late 1930s and after the war, in five-storey blocks, on streets named for countries from the 1908 exhibitions: Australia Road, India Way, Canada Way, and Commonwealth Avenue, where St Michael and St George went up in 1955. Flats of that age and footprint generally run a compact kitchen with a freestanding cooker or one oven under the counter. Television Centre is the other pole. The BBC sold it in July 2012 for £200m, it now holds around 950 flats set round the Grade II listed rotunda, and new-build flats of that class usually arrive with an integrated oven, often a double, with a hob and a hood in the same run, which is why a double at £110 is the common booking there.
Matchdays shut South Africa Road
Loftus Road is five minutes' walk from the station. South Africa Road runs past the ground and along the edge of the 17-acre White City Place site, and it closes to traffic ninety minutes before kick-off on every matchday, held by police until about fifteen minutes after the whistle, then shut again near full time for an hour. Worth knowing when you pick a slot. W12 is inside the North and South Circular, so no call-out fee. The van is ULEZ compliant.

Things people ask on Wood Lane
Does the van have to park at my door?
No, near enough is fine. The heated tank stays in the van and the racks, shelves, trays and side runners are carried out to it, so a bay on Australia Road does the job.
Is a new integrated oven treated differently from an old freestanding one?
The method is the same. Removable parts soak in the tank; the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand indoors, nothing caustic. On an integrated double, add the hob at £23–28 and the hood at £28 for the whole run.
Will the flat smell of oven cleaner afterwards?
It should not. Nothing caustic comes into the kitchen, which is the point of keeping the tank outside. The oven is heat-tested before we leave.
