Wimbledon Park station has stood on Arthur Road, close to the corner of Melrose Avenue, since the District Railway opened it on 3 June 1889; electric trains replaced steam on the line in August 1905.
Houses and flats in Wimbledon Park
Arthur Road is older than the station. It was laid out in 1872, with Leopold Road, Home Park Road and Lake Road, on the estate that John Augustus Beaumont bought from the Spencer family in 1846 and sold off as building plots. Further up the hill, on the Wimbledon end of Arthur Road, Merton's character study dates two houses south of the road to about 1889 and most of the other houses to 1900-1905. Later building filled gaps in the same area: Brockham Close, off Lake Road, is a group of 1930s semis, and Lake House, also on Lake Road, is a 1930s block of flats round a curved courtyard.
Across Wimbledon Park ward the 2021 Census counted 4,218 households. 36.8% lived in a terraced house, 30.0% in a purpose-built block of flats and 10.2% in part of a converted or shared house. Four households in ten, then, live in a block or a converted house, and that often means stairs. The racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately; mention the floor when you call.

Parking in zones P1, P2 and P3
Merton has four controlled zones in Wimbledon Park. Its April 2026 list of roads puts the streets around the station in these three:

Championships fortnight on Arthur Road
For the 2026 Championships, 29 June to 12 July, Merton made Arthur Road, Home Park Road, Durnsford Avenue, Revelstoke Road and Melrose Avenue (between Revelstoke Road and Stroud Road) permit holders only from 8.30am to 8.30pm every day, and parking in zone P2 and some other zones could be suspended in the same hours. The rules are set again each year, so in late June or early July read the signs on your street.
The club itself lies west of the park across Church Road, and it owns 29 hectares of the park that were a golf course until January 2023. Planning permission for 38 grass courts and an 8,000-seat stadium on that land was granted by the Mayor of London's Deputy Mayor for Planning in November 2024. The High Court dismissed the campaign group Save Wimbledon Park's judicial review in July 2025, and at the start of October 2026 two appeals by the group, one against the planning permission and one about a statutory trust on the land, had permission to go to the Court of Appeal and had not been decided. The 9-hectare lake beside the club's land belongs to Merton, which finished safety work on its 320-metre earth embankment in 2022.
