Wimbledon Chase is one of the few London districts that took its name from its railway station rather than lending one to it. The station opened on 7 July 1929, when the first stretch of the long-delayed Wimbledon and Sutton line reached South Merton, and the rest of the route to Sutton followed on 5 January 1930. It is an island platform, eight cars long, with the stairs coming down to Kingston Road at the southern end.

The station handled 0.272 million entries and exits in 2024-25, up from 0.259 million the year before. That is a small station by London standards, which fits the place: a residential pocket with a short parade, a Co-op, a Tesco Express and a BP garage with an M&S counter.
Bay fronts and side passages
The streets here run mostly to inter-war and 1930s semis, bay-fronted, rendered or pebble-dashed, with deep back gardens and a side passage down to them, and kitchens in that stock have usually been extended or refitted at least once, which tends to leave a tall housing unit with two cavities stacked in one column.
