Whyteleafe's centre, round The Square and down Godstone Road (the A22), lies on the floor of a steep-sided valley between the Caterham and Oxted railway lines, about 100 metres above sea level at the roundabout.

The 2021 Census area that takes in Hornchurch Hill, Aspen Vale, St Lukes Road, Maple Road and the north end of Godstone Road had 624 households. Hornchurch Hill and the older valley streets
The design code in the Caterham, Chaldon and Whyteleafe Neighbourhood Plan, made in June 2026, notes that central Whyteleafe has kept fewer Victorian and Edwardian buildings than Caterham. Hornchurch Hill has a highly regular layout: two-storey houses with hipped roofs on a very even building line. On the valley slopes, houses run along the hillside with banks above and below the road, and some have garages or drives set into the bank.

Parking on Hornchurch Hill and Godstone Road
The same design code records that houses on the east side of Hornchurch Hill have no parking of their own, so street parking there is congested. On Godstone Road and Whyteleafe Hill the buildings either sit on the pavement or are set back far enough for a space in front. Tandridge's car park at Whyteleafe Recreation Ground (CR6 9TH) is free but limited to three hours, with no return within three hours, from 7am to 7pm Monday to Friday except bank holidays; a single or a double fits inside that. The council's Hillside car park is for permit holders only.
