Almost every Whitton kitchen started in the 1930s
Whitton station opened in 1930 and the market gardens went under houses within a decade, which is why the shopping parade on Percy Road is one of the best-preserved 1930s high streets in London and why the streets behind it are all the same age. The kitchens are not. A semi on Kneller Road might have had four cookers since the war, and what we turn up to is usually the third or fourth refit, with an integrated single oven at eye level in a run of units never designed to come apart.
The Kneller Road and Prospect Crescent houses were built on a garden-city idea, generous for the time, and those kitchens are the roomier ones. Nelson Road is tighter. Different job, same price.
The parking window is the odd thing about Whitton
Whitton Central and Whitton South, Zones WC and WS, are only enforced Monday to Friday between 10am and 2pm. Four hours. That is about two of our jobs back to back, so a mid-morning double on Blandford Avenue or Rycroft Avenue sits across the whole controlled period, and it is the bit of the day we plan around. Zone WR, towards Whitton Road and Palmerston Road, is stricter: Monday to Saturday, 8.30am to 6.30pm. The Nelson Road car park has 64 bays and shuts at 5pm.
It matters because the heated tank is in the van. Shelves, trays, side runners and racks travel out to it.

A single is about ninety minutes, a double nearer two hours. The built-in Neff and Bosch doubles from the Whitton refits are the £110 job, and the door usually splits, which is the only way to reach the inner glass.
