Whitefoot was a Lewisham council ward, named after Whitefoot Lane, until new wards took effect at the May 2022 elections. Its streets are now split three ways: Conisborough Crescent went into Catford South ward, Longhill Road and Forster Memorial Park into Hither Green, and part of Moorside Road into Downham. Downham estate houses beside Forster Memorial Park
Forster Memorial Park was given in 1919 by H. W. Forster, later Lord Forster, in memory of his two sons, Alfred and John, who died in the First World War. His daughter opened it in 1922. By 1904 the Forster family owned some 1,000 acres in Lewisham, and in 1937 the park almost doubled in size when land to the north was added following a deal between the Forster Estate Company and the London County Council, whose Downham estate grew up around it.
Near the lane the estate was finished late. Most of Downham was finished in the 1920s, but a photograph of about 1955 in the University of Greenwich's Ideal Homes collection, taken where Conisborough Crescent meets the north side of Whitefoot Lane, carries the note that a small section near the lane was not completed until after the Second World War.
In the census area that takes in Conisborough Crescent and Forster House (Lewisham 030B), about 620 households were counted in 2021. Of those, 46.7% lived in a terraced house and 27.6% in a purpose-built block of flats. More than half (53.6%) owned their home, a quarter (25.2%) rented from the council or a housing association, and 18.0% rented privately. Council-built houses and flats of this kind usually have compact kitchens, with a 60cm built-in single or a freestanding cooker.

On Lewisham's map of controlled parking zones, no zone covers Whitefoot Lane, Conisborough Crescent or the roads round Forster Memorial Park. The closest zones on that map are M, named for Barmeston Road, R, named for Rushey Green South, and D, named for Grove Park. That could change: from April to 16 June 2025 the council's Sustainable Streets programme asked residents in parts of Catford South, Hither Green, Downham and nine other wards about parking problems, and its page says the responses are still being analysed. Check the signs on your road before the day. The team needs somewhere to park, a working socket, and the oven cool when we arrive.
