The village round the common
Elmbridge's designation statement traces the settlement to medieval times, centred south of Manor Farm, whose land is now the grounds of Esher College. The low-lying ground was scattered with ponds, and two have survived. In the 18th and 19th centuries the village expanded south-westwards to its present position beside Ditton Common, and the council made it a conservation area on 24 February 1977.

Across the area around the green, the council's design guide describes houses that are rarely more than two storeys, semi-detached and detached, set back behind front gardens with off-street parking on regular, often deep plots. Weston Green Road keeps groups of older houses with many of their original windows and doors.

The design guide describes Hampton Court Way as highly trafficked as it passes through the centre of the village, so a side road, or better your own drive, is where the van should stand.
