Cottenham Park takes its name from Charles Pepys, 1st Earl of Cottenham, who lived in Wimbledon until his death in 1851. The estate north of the station was the first part of this ground to be laid out for building, and its two main roads are Cottenham Park Road and Durham Road. Raynes Park station opened in 1871 on the London and South Western Railway. The plots followed in the 1880s.

Merton. The boundary with the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames runs north and west of here, out past Copse Hill towards Coombe.
