In Soho, 62 per cent of households rent privately, 21 per cent rent socially and 16 per cent own, which is a different mix again from the mansion flats a few streets west in Marylebone, and it means the oven work in one W1 postcode splits three ways rather than following a single pattern. Same postcode, three different jobs.
The council towers and the flats over the shops
Kemp House at 90-104 Berwick Street is a Westminster block of 57 flats, put up by Riches and Blythin between 1959 and 1962. Ingestre Court on Ingestre Place finished in 1972. Kitchens in both are compact and fitted, so it is a single oven and a four-ring hob most of the time. Above the shops on Marylebone Lane and around the Soho grid the flats are conversions, narrow, staircase access, no lift. Then there is the other end of it: the larger Marylebone and Mayfair kitchens where a 90cm range cooker sits under a proper extraction canopy, at £114 rather than £77.
Westminster is not one parking zone
The council splits the city into eight lettered zones. Zone G is Soho, the West End and Covent Garden. Zone E covers Mayfair and St James'. Zone F takes in Hyde Park, Marylebone and Fitzrovia. The Congestion Charge sits over the whole of it. Practically, that means we park where the bay lets us and carry the racks, shelves and trays out to the heated tank in the van rather than expecting a space at your door.
The cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand indoors with non-caustic products, and the door is split where the design allows. Nothing caustic comes into the flat. The oven is heat-tested before we sign it off.

Is W1 more expensive than the rest of London?
Not with us. The prices above are fixed and quoted on the phone, with no premium-area surcharge and no call-out fee inside the North and South Circular.
Do you clean AGAs?
Yes. A two-oven AGA is £143. They are thin on the ground in W1, but they exist in the bigger period flats.
How long does a job take?
A single oven runs about ninety minutes. A double is nearer two hours. A range takes longer again because there are more parts to soak.
Can you come at a weekend?
We work seven days. Weekend slots in the West End go early, so ring ahead rather than the night before.
