West Croydon station stands where the Croydon Canal ended in a basin. The canal opened in 1809 and closed in 1836, the first canal to be abandoned by Act of Parliament, and the railway built along its line opened here on 5 June 1839. Until April 1851 the station was simply called Croydon.

About 250 metres east, on Wellesley Road, stands Saffron Square, a residential tower 134 metres high that Berkeley Homes finished in 2016. Nearer the station, on Poplar Walk, is St Michael and All Angels, built in 1880-85 by J. L. Pearson and listed Grade I.
A flat in a block usually has a built-in single under the hob or a 60cm freestanding cooker. Either way the racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately. The cavity, the fan cover and the door glass are degreased by hand in your kitchen, and the door is split where its design allows.

Why is it called West Croydon when it is north of the shops?
The name was given in 1851 to tell the station apart from East Croydon. The station and the streets round it actually sit just north of the town centre. The East Croydon page covers the other side of it.
I live further up London Road. Is that West Croydon?
Past Sumner Road the road carries on north into Broad Green; the Broad Green page is about that stretch. The price is the same either way.
Can you come on a Sunday?
Yes, at the weekday price. The London Road bays are free on Sundays, though the two-hour pay bays in the Central zone are charged on Sundays.
How long does a double oven take?
