How Kodak filled Wealdstone's streets
Kodak bought seven acres of farmland here in 1890 and had its factory running in 1891. Other firms followed, mostly on the western side of the railway, and Wealdstone grew around them: 1,240 people in 1881 and 11,923 in 1911 (the later count is for the urban district), with the number of houses up from 481 in 1891 to 2,563 by 1911. At its height the Kodak works employed some 6,000 people.
Wealdstone is still a place of terraces and flats. In Wealdstone South ward, 27.5% of households lived in a terraced house at the 2021 Census, 34.8% in a purpose-built block, and 10.3% in part of a converted or shared house.
A flat cut out of a Victorian or Edwardian house usually has a small kitchen, a built-in single or a slim freestanding cooker, and often a flight of stairs. None of that changes the job. Eastman Village on the old Kodak site
The factory site off Headstone Drive is now Eastman Village. Hyde and its partner Barratt London plan more than 2,000 homes there: 1,336 for private sale, 484 at London Affordable Rent and 341 in shared ownership, in buildings of up to 20 storeys. Hyde's own page for the scheme, checked in October 2026, lists phased completions in three phases: January 2020 to July 2022, September 2022 to November 2025, and December 2022 to September 2028. The old Kodak chimney is being kept as part of a new energy centre.

Parking on Wealdstone's long-hours zones
Parking is the hard part here. On Harrow's zone map, the streets round the High Street sit in two long-hours zones. Zone C1 is controlled from 8am to midnight every day, with 352 permit bays and 69 pay-and-display bays; it covers the High Street through the centre, Ellen Webb Drive, the High Street ends of Canning Road, Palmerston Road and Peel Road, and parts of George Gange Way. Zone J, controlled from 7am to midnight, takes over along the eastern ends of those roads and covers most of Grant Road. The northern end of the High Street is in zone CA, controlled from 10am to 11am and 2pm to 3pm on weekdays. The team needs somewhere to park for the whole visit, so the van may need a pay-and-display bay; if your building has visitor parking we can use, tell us when you book, and check the plate on your street for any change.
