Waltham Cross is named after the Eleanor cross at the junction of the High Street and Eleanor Cross Road, begun in 1291 for Edward I in memory of his queen, Eleanor of Castile.
A Hertfordshire town on the London border
It is one of only three of the original crosses still standing. Its upper stages were rebuilt in 1832-3, 1885-92 and 1950-3, and the statues on it now are replicas. The town is in Broxbourne borough, Hertfordshire, with the London Borough of Enfield directly to the south.
