Wallington station opened on 10 May 1847 under the name Carshalton, and only became Wallington in 1868, when a new Carshalton station opened in Carshalton village itself.
SM6: one postcode, six wards
The Wallington post town is much bigger than the town. SM6 postcodes fall in six of Sutton's wards: Wallington North, Wallington South, Hackbridge, Beddington, South Beddington and Roundshaw, and Carshalton South and Clockhouse. An address ending SM6 can be a new flat by Hackbridge station, a cottage by the Wandle in Beddington, or a house on the Roundshaw estate, which was built on old Croydon Airport land.
