The Duke's Head on Wallington Green has belonged to Young's brewery since 1857, and the green in front of it is thought to have had roughly its present shape since the middle of the 18th century.
Wallington Green and the streets behind it
The green and the streets round it were made a conservation area in 1971; it covers 3.5 hectares, and every listed building in it is Grade II. The council's 2007 appraisal dates the first development after the pub to about 1790, when the landowner Sir John Stanley sold land south of the green. The red-brick terrace in Wrights Row, paid for by a Major Wright, survives from that time. His Loraine House, a brick and stucco mansion of about the same date, was damaged beyond repair in the Second World War, and a block of flats of the same name replaced it in 1949 and 1950.
Bigger changes followed the railway of 1847. The east side of the conservation area was soon covered with suburban villas, and Nathaniel Bridges was responsible for those and for Holy Trinity Church on Manor Road, built in 1866 and 1867 of flint with Bath stone. Lavender, Mint and Bernard Roads went up in 1907 and 1908 on the grounds of a house called Wallington Lodge, and between the wars the market gardens round about were built over, much of it before 1935. The war memorial on the green, unveiled in 1922, was listed in 2016.
Villas cut into flats, and purpose-built blocks
Wallington North ward, on its 2022 boundaries, had 4,981 households at the 2021 Census. 35.1% lived in a purpose-built block of flats, 33.6% in a semi and 16.6% in a terrace, while 7.4% had a flat or bedsit inside a converted or shared house. 21.7% rented privately.

Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
I would certainly recommend this service, very efficient and good value for money. The young man did a great job and even cleaned the kitchen floor. Thank you.
