Nos. 1-3 Carlisle Place, east of the station, are described by Westminster as London's oldest remaining mansion blocks: four storeys of yellow stock brick with stucco trim, built in 1859-63 by W Jackson.

The council's audit of the Westminster Cathedral conservation area ties the streets east of the station to a long run of slum clearance and improvement, from the 1860s up to the 1920s. Carlisle Place and Morpeth Terrace were laid out in the late 1850s, Ambrosden Avenue in the 1880s on the site of the old Westminster Bridewell, and the blocks went up between about 1860 and 1920. Carlisle Mansions (1885-9) were designed by George Baines on land once kept for the cathedral. Evelyn Mansions (1893) is seven storeys of red brick, and Morpeth Mansions date from 1891 and 1897-8. Ashley Gardens lines Ambrosden Avenue, Thirleby Road and Emery Hill Street.
Almost all of these blocks have open basement lightwells and stone steps up to the front door. The racks and trays come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, while the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand in the flat. Dust sheets go down first.

Parking on both sides of Vauxhall Bridge Road
Vauxhall Bridge Road divides two parking zones at the station. The Cathedral streets to the east are in zone D; Wilton Road and the streets south of the platforms are in zone A, sub-zone A1 on the council's zone map. Under the hours that took effect on 2 March 2026, paid bays and single yellow lines in both are controlled from 8.30am to 6.30pm on weekdays and not at weekends. Westminster offers no visitor permits for on-street parking, so on a weekday a visiting van pays for a bay by app or phone, usually for up to four hours.

They come out and are soaked and cleaned separately from the cavity, which is cleaned by hand in your kitchen, on dust sheets. Some teams have a heated tank on the van and use it when they can park close; otherwise everything is done in the kitchen. The price is the same either way, and you can ask when you book.
