Older Vauxhall, from Bonnington Square to Tyers Street
Behind the towers is a much older Vauxhall. Bonnington Square is a tight ring of three-storey Italian Gothic terraces (Lambeth dates them to 1881), and houses fill the middle where a square would normally have its garden. Its run-down houses were later taken on by what became the Bonnington Housing Co-op, and from the early 1990s the Bonnington Square Garden Association planted street trees and vines. A former bomb site is now a sub-tropical community garden.
On the SE11 side, the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens closed in 1859; the streets built over them in the 1860s were cleared again in the 1970s for the park that now marks the site. Nearby, the London County Council replaced Victorian terraces with the interwar blocks of its Vauxhall Gardens Estate, built in 1936-39 around Tyers Street, Jonathan Street and Newburn Street: brown brick with horizontal bands, set behind lawns and hooped railings, and five storeys around Newburn Street. Lambeth Council's own Black Prince Estate, on Black Prince Road, came earlier, in 1927, with 108 flats in four blocks, two of which were later demolished.

The price depends on the appliance, not the building: a built-in single on the 40th floor costs the same as one in a Bonnington Square kitchen. The figure is fixed when you ring.
Parking near Vauxhall Cross
Wandsworth Road, South Lambeth Road, Nine Elms Lane and Vauxhall Bridge all meet at Vauxhall Cross, so the van will not be stopping on the main roads. Lambeth's parking FAQ also reminds drivers that double yellow lines apply at any time.
