The Chingford Hall estate on Westward Road was finished in 1969: three 22-storey towers of 100 homes each, built by Wates, with twelve lower blocks around them, 696 homes in all.

The estate went to the Waltham Forest Housing Action Trust, one of four estates it took on with Cathall Road, Oliver Close and Boundary Road. The lower blocks came down from 1995, and the towers followed: St Francis Tower in 2000, St Albans in 2001 and St Fabian in 2002. Houses went up in their place, and the trust handed its rebuilt estates to the Community-based Housing Association before it closed in April 2002.
The 2021 Census fits that history. In the small census area at the west end of Westward Road (Waltham Forest 006E), 53.3% of the 563 households lived in a terraced house and only 15.6% in a purpose-built block of flats. Half of them (50.5%) rented from a housing association or similar social landlord.
Valley ward since 2022
The ward has three councillors. In the 2022 redraw it gained part of the old Endlebury ward and the Shadbolt Avenue area south of the A406. Across its 5,012 households in 2021, 42.0% lived in a terrace, 27.4% in a semi and 20.2% in a purpose-built flat; 63.9% owned and 17.9% rented privately.

Parking off Chingford Mount Road
Chingford Road and Chingford Mount Road are a major bus corridor. The team needs somewhere to park, which on a road like that may mean a side street. Before the day, read the signs where your road starts: some Waltham Forest streets are permit-only past a sign at the turning, with no bays painted, and a visitor permit from you covers the van.
