Upper Holloway is the original name for the whole N19 district, and most people now call it Archway after the gyratory that sits at its centre. The residential streets running off Junction Road and Holloway Road are grand Victorian terraces, and nearly all of them were split into flats long ago, with high ceilings, original features and a shared stair to the upper floors. Between and behind those terraces are the ex-council blocks down towards Holloway, so on one street the job is a period conversion and fifty yards on it is a council maisonette with a builder-fitted single oven.

- The racks, shelves, trays and side runners lift out and soak in a heated tank in the van. The cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand indoors with non-caustic products, so there is no chemical smell after.
- Shared-stair flat
- A conversion reached by a communal staircase with no lift, common right across N19. The oven parts come out and go down to the van, so we plan the carry when you book the floor.
The Archway zone and the carry
Two things shape the working day in N19, and they are linked. The Islington controlled zone across Archway, Zone Z, runs Monday to Friday 8.30am to 6.30pm and Saturday morning until 1.30pm, which is one of the longer windows in the borough, so on most jobs the technician takes a pay and display bay near the kerb. Then the racks go on foot, sometimes down a flight or two from a first-floor conversion. Tell us the floor and the street when you book. There is no call-out fee inside the North and South Circular and no premium for N19.

Prices are fixed on the phone. A single is about ninety minutes, a double nearer two hours. In the conversions the common booking is a single with a hob, and where an old family house kept a full kitchen our double oven cleaning is £110.
N19 questions we hear
My flat is up a shared stair with no lift. Is that a problem?
No. It is the standard job in N19. We carry the racks down to the van tank and bring them back, so tell us the floor when you book.
Can you do an oven clean for the end of a tenancy near Junction Road?
Yes. Book it for the checkout day and we leave a receipt for the deposit paperwork. Month ends go quickly.
Will the whole flat smell of chemicals after?
No. The heavy soaking is in the van. Indoors we work by hand with non-caustic products, which matters in a small converted kitchen.
Do you clean the ovens in the ex-council blocks too?
Yes. The single ovens in the maisonettes are a standard clean, done in place in about ninety minutes.
