Upney oven cleaning from £77 by London Oven Cleaners. Once the oven is back together and hot, you check it, and anything not right is cleaned again there and then.
Upney's name comes from the marshes: the Victoria County History reads it as an 'island', with the Mayes Brook splitting into two branches that ran east and west of it.
Upney Lane between the wars
Before the First World War there was little building in Barking outside the old town. In the 1920s the town spread east along Ripple Road and Longbridge Road and into the land between them, which is where Upney Lane runs. As slum clearance sped up between the wars, the borough council built estates at Greatfields, Eastbury and Upney, and private builders came too: Upney Baptist Church in Cavendish Gardens went up in 1935 on land given by J. R. Leftley, who was then building a housing estate nearby.
The Midland Railway and the London County Council picked out a site on Upney Lane for a station in 1920. It opened on 12 September 1932, while the LCC was building its Becontree estate, designed by the LMS architect William Henry Hamlyn. Two years later the LCC gave Barking Council 116 acres for Mayesbrook Park, laid out from 13 March 1934, with a large gravel pit to be made into a lake and the Mayes Brook along its western edge.
Meadow Road and Keir Hardie Way lie south-east of the station, and Rippleside Cemetery, laid out by the burial board set up in 1884, at the corner of Upney Lane and Ripple Road, closes the area off to the south. A house of the 1930s usually has a modest kitchen sized for a 60cm cooker; a flat in a later block more often has a built-in single.

Council, private and owned homes in Mayesbrook Park and Rippleside
The House of Commons Library calls the census area that takes in Meadow Road and Keir Hardie Way, just south-east of Upney station, Mayesbrook Park and Rippleside. At the 2021 Census it had 3,232 households: 39.6% owned their home, 30.4% rented from the council, 7.4% from another social landlord and 21.8% privately. Just over half (52.1%) lived in a terraced house and 19.2% in a purpose-built flat.
With nearly four in ten households renting from a social landlord and a fifth renting privately, plenty of homes here are handed back at the end of a tenancy, and the oven is on the checkout list. Agents can have the invoice in the agency's name and photos for the checkout file on request, and keys for an empty home can be picked up by arrangement. For tenants, the deposit guide covers what a checkout looks at.

Each type of oven has one fixed price, set on the phone when you tell us what you have.
- Single
- One oven cavity, freestanding or built in; about 90 minutes.
- Double
- Two cavities, usually a main oven with a smaller one above; about 2 hours.
- Range
- A 90cm cooker, usually with two ovens side by side under a wide hob; 2 to 3 hours.
Whatever the size, racks and trays come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, and the inside of the oven and the door glass are degreased by hand in your kitchen.
Parking near Upney station
Controls in this part of Barking vary a lot. The council's zone UP runs for just one hour on weekdays, 1.30pm to 2.30pm, in streets such as Ventnor Gardens and part of Levett Road, which the council has proposed moving into zone E, controlled 8.30am to 5.30pm. Other streets may have no zone at all, so check the sign at the end of your road. The junction of Upney Lane and Meadow Road is one of the council's authorised box junctions, so the van will not wait there; tell us the nearest side road instead.
Upney oven cleaning questions
I am moving out of a council flat. Can you clean the oven before the keys go back?
Yes. Book for a day before you hand back, and cancelling is free up to 24 hours before if the date moves.
My cooker is a 90cm range. Is that priced differently?
Yes, it is priced as a range at £143 and takes 2 to 3 hours. The range oven cleaning page explains the visit.
Do you need anything from me on the day?
A working socket, the oven cool when we arrive, and a parking space near the door if you can find one.

Once again a great job guys, I will see you in a couple of months.
Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
Nice hardworking lads that always do a good job. We used them for our old flat when moving out and for the new one now, both jobs were done very professionally. My wife is very impressed with the results and would recommend them to friends and family.
